Insulin Resistance & Peanut Butter

Why am I a peanut butter enthusiast these days?  It is an easy, healthy snack that aids in stabilizing blood sugar levels.  I was alarmed, however, to discover just how many brands include partially hydrogenated fats in their ingredient line-up.  Yikes!  Make sure you buy a natural brand so you can be sure to consume the good stuff.  I recommend Smucker’s Natural Peanut Butter since it is delicious and is composed of only two ingredients: peanuts and salt.

Furthermore, research shows that eating peanuts can decrease your risk of heart disease, diabetes, and other chronic health conditions. One study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that consuming 1 ounce of nuts or peanut butter (about 2 tablespoons) at least 5 days a week can lower the risk of developing diabetes by almost 30%.
